Around the World in 80 days

A recommended novel for young readers who like enjoying adventure books. A trip around exotic places with risky and interesting events. An eccentric and rich British gentleman and his French valet travel around the world calculating time in order to win a wager. This story could be a summertime reading. An adventure novel by Jules Verne whose main character Phileas Fogg, a rich British gentleman, attempts to complete a trip around the world in 80 days on a £ 20.000 (a half of his total fortune ) wager set by the Reform member’s club. Despite his wealth, Fogg has a modest lifestyle but he likes living with a mathematical precision that means calculating time for every daily routine. His new French valet Passepartout accompanies him and they depart from London by train in October, 2 so they have to return to the club 80 days later. The partners use different 19th century transportation : train, boat, sleigh or an elephant. Many interesting and risky events happen during the journey. Othercharacters are involved in the story like a young Indian woman who marries Fogg at the end of the story and a Scotland Yard detective who thinks Fogg is a criminal.
